Gentrification in Harlem
How do you feel about the gentrification/changes occurring in Harlem?
"I feel very bad; I don't feel good because we (blacks) are losing Harlem. Our politicians (black) do not seem to care. (Congressman) Charlie Rangel has four apartments and he walks around with two thousand dollar suits and he does not care as it (Harlem) was crumbling all around...and (New York State Assemblyman) Keith Wright, has an attitude!"
Has any of the gentrification occurring in Harlem affected you directly or indirectly, and ifso, is it negative or positive?
"It (gentrification) has affected me negatively because my (blood) pressure stays up each time I see Harlem politicians walk around the community. I have seen tenants harassed...been here for years...they have been tricked...senior citizens cannot go back and forth to court to (fight evictions) because of their age."
