She performed as a teenager at the Savoy, Renaissance and Audubon Ballrooms, and at Small's Paradise. In the 1940's, she worked at the Apollo Theater with the Frank Manning Dancers, in Count Basie's show, and with Eubie Blake, working 6-7 shows back-to-back daily.
