Gentrification in Harlem
How do you feel about the gentrification/changes occurring in Harlem?
"As time goes on, things are going to bring about change. You cannot stop change. People talk about the white this and the white that. Nobody cannot tell you where to live. It's up to the individual. Now. I see that the whites are coming into Harlem. I believe there is a long term plan. You do not see any of those people shopping on 125th street; only blacks."
Has any of the gentrification occurring in Harlem affected you directly or indirectly, and ifso, is it negative or positive?
"whites shopping on 125th street do not affect me (as a street vendor). I believe that they have a long term plan that blacks will soon vanish in 15-20 years from now. You see 125th street looking like 42nd street. That's what I believe! They (whites) do not mingle with us; they come and go to the grocery store."
