Gentrification in Harlem
How do you feel about the gentrification/changes occurring in Harlem?
"I have mixed feelings: First, I feel good about the improvement of the neighborhood relating to beautification, i.e. trees, stores, etc. Second, I am saddened that low-income families are being forced out uncaringly by the landlords who raise the rents and put people out of where they were born and raised."
Has any of the gentrification occurring in Harlem affected you directly or indirectly, and ifso, is it negative or positive?
"Yes, I am affected directly and indirectly. Harlem is my home. Social gatherings in the parks i.e. Marcus Garvey and Morning Side have been stopped because of the complaints of Harlem's "New Neighbors." Something cultural should remain and not ceased!"
