Gentrification in Harlem
How do you feel about the gentrification/changes occurring in Harlem?
"I feel that the more Harlem becomes gentrified the less it is unique and it begins to lose its historical significance. Individuals who gentrify Harlem neighborhood for the most part do not make attempts to become part of the community and encourage large corporations to set up shop where they aren't headed. I believe local black residents will eventually be displaced."
Has any of the gentrification occurring in Harlem affected you directly or indirectly, and ifso, is it negative or positive?
"Gentrification has affected me directly as the demand for my apartment is so high that my landlord is raising our rent. It will affect all of us negatively, when group homes, community centers, etc. eventually shut down."
