Gentrification in Harlem

How do you feel about the gentrification/changes occurring in Harlem?

(gentrification) it is another example of social displacement and upheaval in the black American community.  I watch as outsiders move into Harlem and stake their claim on the history and social structure.  It is a repeating slap in the face to all who have lived here for years and to all who hold black American culture important.  "Root Shock" by Mindy Fullilove (A professor of clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University) describes the cultural destruction that takes place when communities are uprooted.  What's going on in Harlem is an example of this."

Has any of the gentrification occurring in Harlem affected you directly or indirectly, and ifso, is it negative or positive?

"Harlem gentrification has been a mixed bag: I used to live in Harlem.  It was home for 12 years.   I always thought I'd be able to come back.  That prospect looks dimmer every day."
